Don't reckon there's much in it anymore....altho i'm no guru to tell you the real differences...(some people prefer one to the other, suppose it depends on howYOU like your synth to sound)
U thinking of buying one or the other ? Probs best if you let us know which synths you're looking at.

I don't think there is a cut-and-dried answer to that.
A hardware digital synth is likely going to be cheaper, give you more polyphony. An analog synth is going to sound warmer, have more character (I.e. 2 Juno 106s are going to sound slightly different from each other) and be more expensive.
My suggestion? Get a decent sampler, so you can do some Sampling+Synthesis.
