Hey all,

Im looking to buy some new monitors in the next few months for several
reasons... At the moment i am using these huge PA type speakers :smiley3: not good for an accurate sound, and to make it worse i blew the bass driver on one of them the other week http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley19.gif
I can manage without for a while as my 'phones are ok for producing in
but i would like to get some new monitors sometime at the start of
summer.

So what can you suggest? Obviously they need a better-than-average bass response, and im on a tight budget.

Err, hope that makes sense.. i seem to have rambled for a bit!

(ps does anyone know where i can buy second hand studio gear around notts, uk???)

ez matey,

hows tricks, moniters huh, well ive got some hhb circle 3, ivebeen winging about them for ages, but to be honest i think its me not listening properly cos i have been happy with them this week http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley36.gifive heard dynaudio are very good, obviously mackie are very good, persoanlly i would say steer clear of the bog stamdard yamahas everyone gets, problem is mate, theres not much quality that is cheap.

second hand gear in notts, i dont have a clue, but ebay, future music and sound on sound, would be some good places to check.

I tested about 10 different makes and went for Tannoy reveals, I love them for the price :smiley2:

Advice tho, get actives not passives http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley16.gif

Ah yea, ive bought a k-station and a few bits from there.. a bit of a hike up the hill though :)

Why do you say actives not passives? Is just that the amp is matched up the speakers specifically...

Whats the bass response like on the reveals? Would i need a sub?

Cheers guys.

yeah the active speakers are better for sure, but i got to be honest i dont know whats the big difference, i can only assume active speakers are better balanced etc http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley5.gifsomeone help me out here, whats so special about active speakers, i admit my monitors are active http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley36.gifbut not sure what the big difference is, if its like mics i can only assume they are more responsive ?http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley5.gif
