Does anyone know anything about building a webserver?? Due to my expanding empire (lol) I think maybe the best move would be to build my own server, could get into FTP sharing, have a big FTP resource for samples pellas, but Im a bit unsure as to which way to go with it, Linux or Windows?? Im building a PC now, bit by bit,for music and graphics, but willbuild one just for serving.

Any suggestions?

i suggest going scsi mate for a server, have you heard about lining up scsi hard drives, you need three to do it but basically if one wipes or breaks you dont lose any information, thats the really non techy explanation.

my advice is nudge jcat he runs a server for some big techy company.

i think the main problem mate is the upload bandwidth you are going to be seriously restricted, unless you just rent a server from the big boys on their backbone.

the fastest upload i can find so far for normal household price is with bulldog you can get 512 upload but thats only in central london near their exchange centres.

goto www.adlsguide.org (http://www.adlsguide.org) to find out about all da broadband bizzeness, but i think you will have problems without a bussiness line, have you seen how much they are.http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/aah.gif

but what do you think about your bandwidth mate, do you think you can handle all the traffic ,256 upload is pretty sh*t with all your traffic mate?

even my own website not sure if it would be enough, i mean yeah 2mb lines are pretty cheap £37.99 but the download is cool, but they are restricting the upload on purpose mate, to stop you and me hosting our own sites without paying sh*t loads http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley5.gif

mmmmmm, I need to plan this out properly, its just an idea I came up with last night, and Ive a lot to learn as I said, the Upload speed will be a problem for my site, too many users, and I got unlimited bandwidth, maybe I should stick with it or get a unlimted bandwidth resellers account, much less hassle.

Thanks Tobulous

one other thing mate, if you move yur dns you will lose all your indexing in search engines and will have to start again, i know this cos it has happened to me already, believ me its a proper bummer.

i would not suggest anyone moves their site once it starts to get busy it can be a right pain in the ass, unless you know something i dont.

thats a big possability http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley19.gif
