ok heres an idea, to try and get people to contribute a bit more, it probably wont change much tho.
i can password protect all forums aprt from "say hello" "this forum" & forshays forum, the rest i password protect, you are only allowed acess to the other forums when youve posted 5 emails or more, what dya think?
Give us chance!
As a newcomer to this site I am in the process of checking out the archives...seeing if my questions have already been answered blah blah blah.
When I know more and have something worthwhile to contribute I will do so, in the meantime...stop picking on the new kids!!

j/k hehehe, ok I can understand where you're coming from but why not post some random banter too? Does it all have to be questions that need answering? Not having a go at you or anyone else for that matter, it'd just be nice to have a larger community feel here :smiley2:
Why not tell us where you're from or what you like? Do you DJ, Produce etc? Do you just like Drum & Bass or all kinds of music? What do you do for a living?
I'll think of more questions later heheheheheh http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley36.gif

Personally, I tend to agree with Jeryl's comment. Why unearth would you want to password protect every topic? Kinda puts a damper on what a community forum is all about. And if you do block the topics, why not just block everyone and ryn a guestbook for n00bs and such? I think just having to register to post/read topics is enough. And exactly what do you mean by post 5 emails? If your refering to just posting 5 questions, comments and such, remember, not everyone visits on a daily basis. Anyway, the best way to use a forum IF your thinking about 'pass protect' is to use Groups. Certain topics require you to be in a certain group/rank before your able to access it. You know what I mean? Anywho, just my suggestions....

hi free, i can understand what yu are saying, and i respect that, but like jeryls saying it would be great if we could get more input from people that visit the site, i dont think my idea is a bad one, i mean ive noticed you here a lot free but havent noticed you post anything apart from looking for another d'n'b forum, (please understand this isnt a rant at you) but we have over 400 members and i bet 300 of them have not even posted a message to say hello.
this site is a non profit organisation, it only works if people help add their little bit, whether it be a link for a decent website, a radio station to add to our station forum, a mix youve found online etc, without people adding a tiny bit this site wont ever be worth a toss, it seems plenty want to take but not give http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley19.gif
like i said its not a rant at you free, its generally at all members who dont contribute.

hia bug, hows things mate, erm maybe the password idea is a bit harsh, but we have been trying to think of ways to get people to help the site grow a bit, i know what its like cos i have joined forums just to take something then feck off again, i suppose its just something we have to put up with, but the ratio of members who add anything to this site is very very low, just look at the members list and rearange the list by members who post, you'll see what i mean.
anyway the saying i learnt from france is c'est la vie "thats life":smiley2:
cheers

my opinion is I dont have on.I'll go along with whatever works.I agree with whoever mentioned restricting access may dampen things but at times it couldnt be much wetterhttp://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley36.gifIve not really had alot of experience of forums until recently so I dont know what works elsewhere. It could be early days too & prehaps it'll build slowly I dunno

Nice portal, but, Ive been there, done that.. Its a pain in the arse to keep up with :smiley17:
You should really consider on coding your own site.. lol.. its not all that hard to do. I used to use a portal: http://www.getremixed.net til I decided I wanted a more personalized website, hence, deejaysonline.com. I can edit it so quick if needed and it doesnt take up hardly any space. My whole site is around 1mb, excluding mp3s of course. Once portals are extracted, they are huge. PHP Nuke is over 7mbs for example.. You just got to be creative and not want to be like everyone else ya know?
Good site though none-the-less. http://www.itstooloud.com/webwiz/smileys/smiley32.gif I just perfer php/perl over asp. http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley36.gif

ez bug, well the portal would not replace the website, just added functions to the forum, the website if i can ever learn how to would be updated to a sh*t hot flash site if i knew how to, im going to do a course this year and study allthis webdesign stuff, i built this site myself, infact it was the first site i ever built, but i really should go and learn this sh*t properly.:smiley2:

OH i dint see this thread, so heres some words I wrote, http://www.itstooloud.com/webwiz/forum_posts.asp?TID=561& (http://www.itstooloud.com/webwiz/forum_posts.asp?TID=561&PN=1) ;PN=1
As for the forum, yes tobes, it looks good,a step forward at least.I mean to be honest there are some wicked forums out there, design wise, but it means starting again, something i suppose you dont want to do. but erm, ah, looking forward to a new look. Back to the non-contibuters/passwrod thing, heres a thought, if they didnt have to register to post, they would not bother anyone, and at least people are coming, so the odd few may join in, bteer with no pass me thinks.

ok mate ive unlocked your forum i think it was the right thing to do, shame cos i love watching the members numbers go up, but theres no point in them joining if they dont want to contribute.
i wont delete all the members, cos i like having a forum with 400 members even if there is only 50 of us who frequent it.
yeah mate, updating forum databases is not a nice thing to do, someone offers to do it for the soop forum.
i do like the vbullitin forum but thats £100 quid :smiley3:you got any links to some wicked forums then forshay so i can have a butchers.
cheers mate
