Right then peeps....i'm really getting into this music making sh*t. I got Reason on my PC now, and i love it.

So my question is....how does someone like me (Bedroom DJ! lol) get into the music business proper?

How do you get your tracks recognised by other artists and labels???

Might sound stupid to all you pros, but i definitley wanna get into this.

first off i dont think anyone here is making any money from producing music, so we are all in the same boat,

firstthings first, you need the music, in my mind music speaks for itself, whether its good or bad.

the main thing is to get your music heard, and to get a reaction, so really depending on the style of music your into, will depend which dj's or radio stations etc you need to be pestering to get people to hear your stuff.

me personally ive never sent any tracks out to anyone until now, cos ive never felt ready, but i have just been in touch with radio 1 who want me to send in a load of cd's and also another fm station across europe, i think they have heard my stuff im not sure, i did forward them a link to download a load of my tracks but dont know if they checked them out or not.

so im not sure what happens, but i get the vibe that if the reaction is good then i suppose people will buy the music, then you need to get distributers, and a place to master your tracks and get master laquers made.

the main thing is a distributer, and believe me they arent looking for new music, infact they are trying to make money from all the peeps they have already on the books, so you need to be recomended by someone they trust, and they might actually listen to you then.

first things first mate, you need to be ready with your music, when youve got that then you can move ahead, before that i wouldnt bother wasting energy on anything other than producing music.

thats my opinion, others may disagree, but make the contacts, but try not to burn bridges cos you may want to turn to these people you have met to help you out, when the right time has come.

hope my ideas help a lil bit :)Edited by: Tobes

Kenny, I heard all your tracks, good, I was expecting worse fromwhat you said, you got a lot of potential, just keep bashing those beats out, but the sound is clean, try adding a few effects here and there to liven it up a bit.I think you (everyone)improve with each track, gradually learning new tricks, so keep the dream mate , I'm on the same vibe, but not full time, I suppose that comes if it comes, just try to satisfy yourself enough with your music, and try to get as much feedback as possible by getting your tracks hosted online (by me) andposting links, getting them in all the mp3 sites, and getting reviews. sending emails to companies, sites, asking for opinion, giving CD's to friends and theyre friends,THATS JUST THE (A) START, theres so many avenues to take, but im putting up loads of links on fellers.co.uk to various promotional sites, to help up&coming producersmake the right connections.

thats all for now:smiley2:

yeah, the way i look at it is this. I aint ever going to send out any tunes that i've done to record labels until i am at a level of happiness that they could be of a releasable quality.

I aint really sure about this whole...badgering labels with tunes just to get feedback on "what should be done to improve them"type of thing.....i reckon labels must get so many tunes sent through thatlabel A&R guysget bored of listening to sub standard productions....if that sub standard production links to your name every time they open the enevelope then that aint gonna do you any favours in the long run...in my opinion anyway. Would be much better to hit a label with some tunes that they instantly notice and go "fooking hell...this is quality!" - as Tobes said....all about the music doing the talking

Definately the best way to start getting feedback is to distribute to mates...people who you know will give constructive comments. Building up contacts is defo the way forward....but, i dont really see it as just a 'contact' thing really....its all about building friendships with new people across the nation/globe that have the same interests musically as yourself who you can work with...bounce ideas off...give and recieve feedback...help each other out etc

Kinda what this place and others like it is all about?

haha.....now if that aint a new millenium approach to this whole music biz then i dont know what is....http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley16.gif

agree with oracle I think labels get sent alot of dross every week. When youve got a good piece get it on dat & ideally get some platesdone & go see the label/dj in person imo (Im not a producer so Im only goin on friends experiences)If its any good you know they'll want it.
