Man;, im wondering if anyone can help me with my lil' problem, over time, my pcs CPU has gradually degraded and now i cant run 3 progs togeteher without any faults. I use windows washer and all that stuff, registry cleaner, chaos shredder etc, which always cleans up the PC quite alot and does help. but the main prob being the CPU gradually getting slower & slower, and now its really p***ing me off.

Anyone know anything about this? is there any programmes to aid CPU usage, I use FREE ramPRO, but it doesnt help much.

Maybe it has to be a new CPU???http://www.itstooloud.com/webwiz/smileys/smiley19.gif

mate its not the cpu its ya hard drive bruv, its probably crammed up, and also your windows drive is smashed, formmting the drive is a must if you want optimal performance all the time, im about to do it aswell, but im gonna install windows server 2003 and give that a bash, you want to make sure you dont have too many prgrams running in te backround aswell, type msconfig into your run panel in the start bar to see how much stuff you got running in the backround, also check the start up tab in the start/programs area, delete anything in the startup tab, you dont want prog's running in the backround, but like i said the best thing is fdisk and format c:/s in dos, i always have windows in its own partition and have a seperate partition for progs, i still am not sure if that helps or not, but one thing for sure is it leaves the windows partition pretty clean without needing to defrag once a month. hope this helps a lil bit.....http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley10.gif

yeah man, I have just released 12 gigs and defrag'ed, though PC;s getting old now,-3 years- i also use speedbot on startup as this was the only way to get things starting up slower. Its all a bit of a mess but im gonna go by your advice and see what comes up.

thankstobes, you're a http://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley10.gif

man it always sounds drastic to format, but its a must to keep it runing fast, i got a 2.5 gig processor in this pc, its runing alright but once i wipe this baby andclean off about 20gig of films and sample disks, and generally just clean it up it will run a lot smoother, it doesnt do magic sh*t or nothing but it will probably sort you out, the only thing with all these progs your running they are using ya ram as well as cpu so i suppose if you can do all the tricks those progs are doing without actually using them you will get better performance........ i will check out this server 2003 if its any good i will sort ya out bro :smiley2:

i will test it first, i did try codename longhorn the other day but it was a bit f**ked still, there are also some new updates for xp if thats what ya using heres a list of the updates, ive got this too.

--AutoPatcher XP v 4.0 Gold: November Update--

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

How often do you install Windows XP? PC Crashes, Viruses, or even fixing other
peoples systems... most people install XP regularly, whether they want to or
not. After awhile, you get sick of going to Windows Update and continuously
downloading patch after patch, update after update. Well, I have just the
thing. I've spent many days compiling this list of updates for Microsoft
Windows XP Pro/Home. I insist you already install Service Pack 1 (or 1a)
before you run this updater (I mean, why would you run it otherwise, if not to
patch it fully?). You can either snag it from Windows Update, or you can get
the full network install of SP1a here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/4/f/54f8bcf8-bb4d-4 (http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/4/f/54f8bcf8-bb4d-4613-8ee7-db69d01735e) 613-8ee7-db69d01735e
d/xpsp1a_en_x86.exe

Be warned, it's a 125.09 MB download, so hopefully you have DSL or Cable or the
like. Then again... this patcher was a 181.0 MB download, so it's just a little
less.

(Personal Tip: Once you download both SP1a and my AutoPatcher, burn them both
to a disk and then you can update any system anywhere!)

This patch takes anywhere from 10 - 90 minutes to install, depending on the
speed of your system, and of course, what updates you've chosen to install.
Don't kid yourself, if you're running a Pentium II 400 with 256 MB of PC100 RAM,
it's not gonna finish for awhile. And if you're running an Athlon XP 3200 with
2 GB of PC3500 RAM, don't expect this to take too long. Either way. it's not
going to be any longer than sitting through Windows Update, and some of these
patches aren't even ON Windows Update.

Anywho, here is what is in the AutoPatcher:

** 27 Windows XP Pre-Service Pack 2 Critical Updates
** 18 Windows XP Pre-Service Pack 2 Recommended Updates
** 05 Internet Explorer Updates
** 03 Outlook Express Updates
** Euro Conversion Tool
** MSN Messenger 6.1 w/ Option to uninstall Windows Messenger 4.7
** Windows Messenger 5.0 (if you chose not to install MSN Messenger)
** Microsoft Virtual Machine w/ 2 Updates
** Sun Java 1.4.2_02 (for those running SP1a or SP1)
** Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8
** Microsoft DirectX 9.0b w/ 1 Update & Optional Control Panel Shortcut
** Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8
** Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 w/ 1 Update
** Microsoft SharePoint Migration Tool
** Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer
** Windows XP PowerToys (including 6 Bonus Powertoys)
** Microsoft XML 4.0 SP2
** Windows Media Player 9 w/ Update to Build 3075 & 3 Updates
** Windows Movie Maker 2.0
** 3D Windows XP ScreenSaver
** Microsoft American Flag ScreenSaver
** Ability to remove ASP.Net Uset Account
** Ability to remove all Windows XP ScreenSavers
** Ability to remove all Win9x based Wallpapers
** Ability to remove all Windows XP Wallpapers
** Optional Internet Explorer Spellcheck tool
** System Uptime Tool
** Option to replace update 8-Bit Shutdown and Logoff Icons on Windows Classic
Theme
** UxTheme.dll Patcher (so you can use custom themes)
** 53 Registry Tweaks

So there's a Grand Total of **156** updates, upgrades, and bonus features for
you boys and girls to enjoy!
If you would like a specific list, please view the "Complete.txt" file included.

As I said above (though some of you may have just skipped it cause you don't
like to read... you know who you are), before you run this, you *MUST* install
Windows XP Service Pack 1 or 1a.

When it comes to running the Auto-Patcher, just run the "AutoPatcherXP.exe" file
that appears outside the
main folder (AutoPatcher_XP_4.0_Final) when you extract the files. It's a menu
(can also be used as an
AutoRun), and follow the instructions. From this menu you can view the change
log, readme, or run the
program. Please do not manually try to run the exe from inside the
"AutoPatcher_XP_4.0_Final" folder. The
way it runs has changes, and manually running it may cause the patcher to not
work on your system.
So please use the menu we've made.

Once you choose to run the AutoPatcher, it's pretty simple. Check the boxes you
want to install... don't check
the boxes you *don't* want to install. If you want to make a custom version,
please read the instructions
how in the "Customize.txt" file.

*** Be forewarned... upon running this Auto-Patcher should your computer become
unstable, kill your dog, sleep with your girlfriend, start stealing your
clothes, or behave odd in any other fashion... I warned you and can't be held
liable (neither can Microsoft, sorry to
kill your "Get Rick Quick" scheme)! And yes, in case you were wondering... this
was the warning. We've spent weeks Beta Testing this, and as of now it causes
no issues on any of our machines, but I don't know you or what yours has... so
there. ***
