When you start a song with a drumloop, you may easily determine its tempo and adjust the song tempo with only one function: Adjust Tempo to Object Length and Locators.
This is how it works
Import a drum loop into the Arrange window. You may use the pencil tool for this purpose. Just hold down the SHIFT key on your computer keyboard while clicking with the pencil in an empty space of the Arrange window besides an audio track. A file selector will open up.
Please make sure the loop loops smoothly. Open the sample editor by double-clicking the loop, activate cycle and start playback.
Logic offers a simple function to match the song tempo to an audio loop.

Adjusting the song tempo
At first, the tempo of the loop will not match the song tempo.

This can be changed easily with the function Adjust Tempo to Object Length and Locators. Set the locators by click-dragging with the mouse in the upper part of the barline of the Arrange to the actual number of bars of the loop (four bars in our example).
Select the loop and perform the function by hitting the key T on your computer keyboard (the default key command for Adjust Tempo to Object Length an Locators). To be found as a menu entry under Options > Tempo> ...
To adjust the tempo of the whole song, press Globally in the following dialogue.

The result is a tempo change. The loop now matches the bar boundaries.
