Greetings,
I use allot of VST plug-ins in Logic, including free plug-ins downloaded off t'internet. I have noticed then when I render as wav file (bounce in Logic Lanuage) I get a sizable latency before the audio starts. This tells me that a single plug-in or several plug-ins are introducing latency into the signal. Now before anyone mentions the 'Latency plug-in compensation' option in Logic I can tell you that it is already activated. So yeah, has anyone got a solution? has anyone experianced this themselves? Is their a plug-in out there that atomatically detects plug-latency and corrects it?

what sound card you using and is it any specific plugin?
oh and good to see you around mate:smiley17:
ive never experianced latency problems from a plugin, i would normally put it down to proccesor speed or soud card, but youve got a dual processor pc yeah?

This particular problem is with my home PC setup: 2 Ghz Pentium 4, M-Audio Delta 24/96. I am sure that it is the free plug-in I use allot called "Ambeince" nice reverb. If I shed any light on this topic I will post the results here.
Good to be back in touch dude, your new forum is excellent. I plan to post alot more studio tricks/tips soon.
Producing for me at the moment is pretty slow, I have an attempt at a chilled d'n'b track posted on my 'demo' section at www.recordvault.co.uk (http://www.recordvault.co.uk) if you want to check it out. Not really into it any more, but hey...
Got a new job part-time teaching music technology at a studio in Nottingham, so pretty busy with that at the moment.
Hows producing going with you? Did you take those tracks down to London to get pressed?

yeah mate got em pressed, and learnt a lot from that process the guy who cuts em is my mate and cool as f**k, he spent a lot of time with me helpingme understand the mastering process for vinyl, was quite shocked how it has to be compared to a mix down on a CD.
i will check out ya tune later man, and mate if your using free plugins, well, to be honest im not surprised your getting latency problems, thats propably why its free.
anything you need just pm me mate:smiley2:

HI Oracle,
No not teaching at Confetti, I studied theira while back. I am working for an organisation called Take 1 recording studios in Notts, Hyson Green. At the moment we are halve way through an introductory course to music production. There will be a sampling course starting in January, this will cover most sampling systems e.g. Akai S3000, MPC, EXS24. Let me know if you are interested amd I will foward all thew details onto you. In the mean-time I will be posting some good tips mainly on using Logic Audio...

hhhmmm ok im up for the esx24 even though logic is now a load of bollox, doesnt even support vst's in version 6, what the f**k is that about, but i got to say, those old akais,, uuurggh bloody nightmare, im sure they are nice once your on track with em, i said to a mate once, yeah man no probs, cant bethat different to my Emu, will show you how to work it, i was like f**k, this is such a pain in the ass, so i told him you better read the manual man, i dont think it was the 3000 though, it was the one with a tiny screen and everything was an abreviationhttp://www.itstooloud.com/smileys/smiley19.gif
While Logic conpensates for plugin delay automatically in some places in the mixer (inserts etc) it may well not automatically compensate on send effects. That's one of the great things about SX 2, it compensates throughout the mixer path, makes loads of difference...
Hey Tobes, I know Logic 6 dosn't support VST anymore but I think there is a VST to Audio Units plugin wrapper. It works the same as a DirectX plugin wrapper, by translating one format to another in real time. Worth looking into (if you get a mac that is)...

I beleive this is a bug within Logic, or just one of those things that Logic have not quite sorted out, i use Cubase myself but i'm always finding bugs and problems all the time... This is 1 of the reasons why software is always being updated...

the whole latency thing will genrally be directly related to
proccessing power and sound card capabilities really.
Especially if you are using reverb plug ins as these tend to be
the most CPU hungry.
I have only ever experienced latency within Logic that is
directly related a sound card. The audiophile 24/96 is a great
card but is still very much at an enetry level. There will be a
point where the number of plugins u have runnin will start to put
a strain on your cards capability.
i would maybe consider looking into investing in a new card. M
Audio do a great range in my opinion and i have a Delta 10/10
on its way to me as we speak. My previous card was a
Delta410 which i abused heavily when using Logic's plugins
and 3rd party instruments. Great card and never bulked or
showed any signs of latency...i never did any real 'tests' so to
speak to see how many plugins i could run at once but on one
track i had about 19 esx'x running...effects...routing to busses
etc...all playing back via midi data and a few tracks of audio
without any issues.
sorry, a bit late with thi one but thought i would share my views
peace
